PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO

Collaboration | Innovation |  Impact | Data-Driven | Social Justice

These  core principles have provided the foundation of my professional career in advancing social change to enhance our society.  I invite you to take explore a selection of my professional accomplishments built upon these principles using the links below. Artifacts are divided into three categories: leadership, programs & projects, and education.

LEADERSHIP

Below are selected examples of crafting and leading strategic, collaborative initiatives.

PROPOSING A STRATEGIC PLAN

In 2017 the Division of Student Affairs identified a need to review and renew our approach to data-driven decision making. As a member of this task force team, I developed and proposed an ambitious strategic plan to advance structural and cultural changes to our division.

COORDINATING A DEPARTMENTAL MERGE

In 2012 a strategic decision was made to merge the Office of Diversity Education into DePaul University's historic Center for Intercultural Programs.  During my appointment as Interim Director, I coordinated the restructuring of the department leading to new programs and activities resulting from a more efficient structure and budget.

Clicking the button below will reveal the program structure of the two departments before and after the merge, which resulted in new initiatives and greater strategic focus.

LEADING THE CIVILITY & CLIMATE TASK FORCE

In 2011-2012 the Division of Student Affairs reviewed opportunities to strengthen student civility and increase perceptions of campus climate.  I was appointed to lead an administrative task force to recommend strategic opportunities.

LEADING A CURRICULUM REVIEW TASK GROUP

In 2010 DePaul University partnered with Interfaith Youth Core to explore ways to strengthen our institutional commitment to interfaith engagement on campus.  I was appointed to lead a task group of faculty and administrators  to specifically review and recommend opportunities to strengthen interfaith competencies through the Liberal Studies Program Curriculum.  ï»¿

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS

Below are examples of successful projects and programs directly coordinated by myself.

The Division of Student Affairs hosts an annual event designed to celebrate all departmental assessment efforts while promoting or findings and next steps with students, university leadership and staff, and external guests. From 2015 to the present I planned and coordinated this event that reached 140 attended in the fall of 2017.

HUMAN DIGNITY POSTER CAMPAIGN

In 2010 a new educational poster campaign was created to emphasize the institution's core values related to diversity and inclusion.  Each poster features selected text from the newly drafted statement on human dignity written by myself. Posters were distributed across campus and featured in senior administrative offices.

DIALOGUING DEMON FACILITATOR PROGRAM

In 2009 the Office of Diversity Education created a peer facilitation program to increase the department's capacity to provide diversity workshops across campus.  Students completed over 30 hours of training coupled with ongoing professional development related to social justice education and dialogue facilitation. This student program doubled in size in six years and assisted the department in the implementation of approximately 200 workshops annually.

EDUCATION

Below are examples of curricula and curricula design processes I developed to cultivate cultural competence among college students.

SOCIAL JUSTICE WORKSHOP CURRICULUM DESIGN PROCESS

During my career as a scholar practitioner, I used scholarship, development theory, and best practices to develop and implement workshop curricula, resulting in the development of my own theoretical framework.

CULTURAL CONFLICT AND VALUES WORKSHOP

This 90-minute curriculum was designed to increase awareness of culturally-based values as related to service learning experiences.  This workshop curriculum was originally implemented 2010, resulted in NCORE conference presentations, and turned into a journal article in The Journal of Transformative Education.

ONLINE MODULE: CORE CONCEPTS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATION

In 2014 the Center for Intercultural Programs began infusing online modules into live workshops to promote conceptual understanding prior to attending the workshop. This online module was developed for all first-year students as part of a required workshop on diversity and social justice.
